PAVEMENT

High-Speed Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) Pavement Surveys

Figure 1: Example of a radar profile from a GPR survey of the A329M illustrating a change in pavement construction from flexible composite to rigid jointed reinforced (RJR) concrete. The results also illustrate variability in the depth to various bound layers within the flexible composite pavement and the position of dowel bars and the thickness of the PQ concrete and unbound layers within the RJR pavement.

Figure 2: Graph illustrating the results of the layer thickness accuracy test for all participants in the TRL 2nd GPR Performance Trials. Zetica’s result is indicated by the cyan line. The steeper the gradient of the line the higher the percentage of results having a low deviation from the reference thicknesses. Pass levels are indicated by the vertical and horizontal green lines (graph courtesy of TRL).
