UXO Clearance

Magnetometer clears firing range

Advanced, new techniques for processing the magnetic data from a Zetica magnetometer sweep of a former Royal Navy firing range resulted in a reassuringly clean, post-clearance survey. An initial survey led to the location, safe excavation and removal of a series of mortar bombs and other ordnance. In each case, the approximate depth and size of each item was calculated for the clearance team.

Upon completion, a detailed magnetic map of the development site generated from the survey data was sufficient for an unexploded ordnance clearance certificate to be issued.
