EOC clearance Case history 2

With Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) related issues expect the unexpected!

During the construction of a gas pipeline in the Brecon Beacons, an observant member of Transco’s construction team noticed a suspicious item. On investigation it proved to be a mortar the size of a mobile phone. The incident meant that all works halted while Zetica dealt with the situation.

As a result of Zetica’s investigation, over 450 pieces of ordnance were found, ranging from mortars, grenades to anti-tank rockets. It’s not uncommon to find UXO in this part of the country as a result of past military activities, but this was close to farm houses and beside public hiking trails. Certainly not somewhere you would expect to find UXO.

To ensure that practically every potential item of ordnance was removed, Zetica conducted up to 3 stages of detection and clearance, each stage providing more certainty that the ordnance had been removed.
