Safety, Health, Environment & Quality (SHEQ) Assistant

Overview:

We are seeking a SHEQ Assistant, within the Safety, Health, Environment and Quality Team.  This role will give you an opportunity to learn and develop within the company. Training will be provided, both in-house and through external training providers.

Responsibilities:

Overall responsibilities focus on helping with Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) tasks, including client facing compliance tasks, regular site visits on construction sites, development and implementation of internal health and safety procedures for our employees and third parties, as well as monitoring, review, and audit of our management systems. Essential Qualifications and Skills:

Excellent spoken and written English IOSH Managing Safely or relevant experience within the health and safety industry. Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (inc. Word, Excel, Powerpoint). Excellent attention to detail, being methodical, conscientious, and logical. Positive ‘can do’ attitude, and an ability to work under pressure and to deadlines. Happy working under supervision and on your own. Be confidence to interact with all sections of the company. An ability to be flexible within a demanding working environment Full driving licence.

Preferred Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

Other H&S/Environment or Quality training/qualifications. Have a positive interest in helping us to become more sustainable. Good organisational skills and timekeeping. Demonstration of document management and record keeping. Willingness to learn and have a motivation for self-improvement. Some experience of working in the field of health and safety is preferable.

 

General Information:

  • Starting salary between £23,000 – £25,000 (salary is dependent on skills. Previous experience may be taken into consideration.) Monday – Friday

Senior Geophysicist

MAIN AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

The Senior Geophysicist is involved in survey design, with input to technical solutions at the proposal stage and refinements during the project preparation stage.

 

Throughout fieldwork stages, they oversee data quality, visit site where necessary, and ensure that the teams are properly supported from a technical perspective. They have the opportunity to lead fieldwork, especially during the more technically challenging projects.

 

The Senior Geophysicist provides guidance for the data processing, interpretation and reporting stages of a project, undertaking these aspects themself for more complex projects. They may be required to present results both internally and to clients.

 

At all stages of the work, they will be expected to maintain and improve our quality standards, ensuring projects are delivered on time and to budget, with innovative approaches where possible and ensure that our projects are conducted in line with best industry practice.

 

The Senior Geophysicist will be involved in project across all of Zetica’s departments, including transport infrastructure surveys, engineering / geotechnical surveys, geological / environmental geophysical surveys, unexploded ordnance detection surveys and utility service detection surveys. They will gain experience across this wide breath of disciplines, utilising established and developing techniques and instrumentation for a wide range of clients.

 

They will also be expected to provide significant input into our extensive innovation, research and development projects.

External: Various clients, both nationally and internationally

 

LOCATION: Head Office – Zetica House, Eynsham

 

HOURS OF WORK: Fulltime, permanent

 

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

The Senior Geophysicist role requires a post graduate degree in geophysics, combined with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in near surface high resolution geophysical surveys. They can demonstrate experience in collecting, processing, interpreting and reporting geophysical investigations for environmental or engineering applications using the majority of the following techniques:

 

  • Ground penetrating radar (GPR)
  • Electromagnetics (EM)
  • Magnetometry
  • Microgravity
  • Electrical methods (e.g. resistivity, induced polarisation, self-potential)
  • Seismic methods (e.g. P- and S-wave seismic refraction, surface wave seismics, borehole seismics).

 

They are proficient in relevant geophysical data processing and interpretation software including Oasis Montaj, GeoGiga, SurfSeis, Res2Dinv, Zonde, Aarhus Workbench or similar. Experience in mapping or GIS packages (AutoCAD, Microstation, ArcGIS, QGIS or similar) is desirable.

 

As well as having a scientific and enquiring mind, the Senior Geophysicist is a good communicator, with excellent spoken and written English and good reporting skills and a friendly and approachable persona.

Graduate Geophysicist

A Graduate Geophysicist’s role at Zetica requires active involvement at every stage of a project from initial planning, site works through to reporting. At each stage, the emphasis is on quality and customer service.

 

Working as part of a team, you will be required to communicate effectively and professionally with customers, the public and colleagues.

 

The following are typical roles applicable to the position. This list is not exhaustive with both special and research projects providing additional challenges to the role:

 

  1. Preparation of projects based on customer requirements. Assessing and agreeing effective techniques prior to site work, with an emphasis on quality, customer service as well as budget and program requirements.
  2. Competent data collection, collecting good quality data showing good repeatability, accuracy. Data collection is for a wide range of techniques to include electromagnetics, magnetics, radio frequency location, GPR, seismics, ERI and utility services detection.
  3. Care of equipment on site is also a key responsibility.
  4. Site work requires a high level of fitness, with significant distances walked and lifting of equipment on a frequent basis.
  5. Managing data quality in line with Zetica’s QC procedures.
  6. Using specialist geophysical software and drawing packages (e.g. AutoCAD 2015, Oasis Montaj, RES2DINV, GeoGiga, Radan, IDS-GRED and in-house solutions) you will be expected to QC, process, analyse and interpret data.
  7. With supervision, guidance and authorisation, you are expected to undertake all phases of reporting from factual through to interpretation and recommendations. Focus on customer requirements and quality being a key consideration.
  8. As part of an employee development process, you are expected to develop through training, experience and an eagerness for further learning and gaining capabilities beyond the core competencies.
  9. You should abide by the companies health, safety, environmental and quality policies and lead by example in their application to all aspects of a project.
  10. A key aspect of the role is to identify new ways of working, whether offering a technical enhancement or to help improve efficiency on site and in the office.
  11. The role allows for gaining significant experience in a wide range of techniques, that also with proven competencies allow for involvement in more and more complex projects as they arise.
  12. You would be expected to work predominantly throughout the UK, but also occasionally abroad.
  13. As a professional, the role requires dedication and an eagerness to progress and provide a high level of service, even if extra effort/hours of personal time are required to meet a deadline.

Working conditions:

The position is based in our office in Eynsham, Oxfordshire. Most of the work relates to UK projects, but the opportunity to be involved in international projects is likely to arise.

 

Physical requirements:

Site work requires a high level of fitness, with significant distances walked and lifting of equipment on a frequent basis.

 

Salary and benefits:

Salary is dependent on experience and is subject to review after 6 and 12 months. Performance and development are reviewed yearly there-on as a matter of course, to ensure career progression. Salary enhancements include:
